The Minions are back in “Despicable Me 4,” which hits theaters this Wednesday, July 10. On this occasion, CNEWS looked at the strange language of these little banana-yellow minions.
“Chiche kebab para tutti”, “Bee do bee do bee do”, “Poulet tikka masala”… Loyal, irresistible and clumsy, the Minions do not speak our language, and yet we understand some of their words.
And for good reason, according to Pierre Coffin, the creator of these adorable characters in blue overalls and their strange dialect, it is a mixture of French (“tu pues des bras”, “pignouf”), Spanish, Italian and English (“bello” for “hello”).
The Minions also use some Japanese words (“como taki?” for “how are you?”, “kampaï” for “cheers!”) and count in Korean (hana, dul, set…).

In the same sentence, Pierre Coffin has fun putting together several words that have no connection with each other and which therefore come from different languages, which gives the minion language, a crazy gibberish that must still fit the action and whose overall meaning must be understood.
So don’t be surprised if you hear “chipolata”, “bido”, “poopaye” or even the famous “banana” when you immerse yourself in the franchise again, especially on the occasion of the release of the fourth part of the “Despicable Me” saga, this Wednesday, July 10.
Moreover, it is Pierre Coffin himself who has dubbed each Minion since the first “Despicable Me” (2010), and this, in a single language for all countries.
