After Furiosa at Warner, Universal also sacrifices a film that flops at the box office

After the mega-flop of The Fall GuyUniversal sacrifices another film that disappoints at the box office.

Every year, several films fail quite badly at the box office and are ultimately sacrificed by their distribution studio which sends them more or less quickly to the digital market. 2024 is no exception to the rule, even if we can say that some of the feature films concerned did not deserve such a fate, in particular Angrysacrificed by Warner after its mega-flop.

A few weeks earlier, Universal had thus sacrificed The Fall Guy since the blockbuster starring Ryan Gosling, while it had been well received by critics and the public, was a total box-office flop. And even if the method doesn’t please everyone, Universal doesn’t intend to change it. The studio has dealt the same fate to another film that is failing at the box office.and this one didn’t deserve it either.

Who will fall with him?

The Bikeriders, more gasoline in the engine

Unfortunately, we are talking about The BikeridersJeff Nichols’ latest production dealing with the golden age of motorcycle clubs in the 60s and 70s. Based on the eponymous book by author and photographer Danny Lyon, the film has been far from being a success since its worldwide release ten days ago, despite a cast including Austin Butler, Tom Hardy and Jodie Comer. Indeed, The Bikeriders currently has a total worldwide box office revenue of $23.5 million.for a budget of 30 to 40 million according to Deadline.

According to When to Stream, Universal has therefore decided to sacrifice Nichols’ drama by making it available on VOD from July 9.roughly two and a half weeks after its theatrical release (which would be even faster than The Fall Guy et Angry). The studio has not yet confirmed the date, however, so it is subject to change.

Bye bye big engines

The Bikeriders would thus be available on Prime Video, AppleTV+ and VUDU. The three sites would offer a pre-order at $24.99 as well as a rental of the film for 48 hours at the price of $19.99. A rather disappointing end to the exploitation of Jeff Nichols’ latest baby, who could do nothing against the law of the market. Despite this decision in the United States, on the other hand, The Bikeriders is still broadcast in our French cinemas.
