Having become the biggest success in French cinema in ten years, the feature film featuring actors with mental disabilities has capsized France. After 9 weeks of operation, the film distributed by Pan Distribution crossed the 8 million admissions mark in France this weekend. The popular comedy could reach 10 million spectators by the end of its run in theaters.
“A little something extra” on the way to 10 million admissions?
Despite a drop in attendance of 11.6% over the first five months of the year according to figures published in June by the National Center for Cinema and the Animated Image (CNC), several feature films have managed to attract the French to the cinemas in droves. Result: more than 80 million tickets have already been sold since the beginning of the year.
In terms of the top 10, it is obviously American blockbusters and franchise sequels that are dominating the rankings. The “second part” of “Dune” attracted more than 4.10 million spectators in France, the second part of “Inside Out” has already accumulated more than 3.12 million admissions in 12 days of operation (the film was released on June 19, editor’s note). A score that already allows it to climb onto the podium of the 10 most-watched films in France in the first half of 2024.
