trailer for a film that is already scary

When the director of Divines takes on the Three Musketeers, it gives All for oneand we already know that some will cry foul.

It would be easy to take a shot at this All for onewhich promises to be a feminine (and feminist?) rereading of the myth of the Three Musketeers. We are already expecting to see certain comments appearing which will compare it to Ocean’s 8or at SOS Fantômes of 2016, perceived as facade feminist rereadings of films that have already established their reputations.

It would be naive to believe that the appearance of All for one is foreign to the success of The Three Musketeers, and to the success of The Count of Monte Cristo, but at the helm of this project, we find Houda Benyamina, the director of the marvelous Divineswho received the Caméra d'Or prize at in 2016, and the excellent documentary Salam. Which turns out to be rather reassuring a priori.

The filmmaker works wonders with handheld cameras, and her cinema is marked by a strong political conscience. For the occasion, she recalled her colleagues Oulaya Amamra and Déborah Lukumuena, both present in the casting of Divinesin order to bring this to life All for onewhich has just revealed a rather exciting trailerdespite some big fat comedy tricks.

The Three Musketeers: My Ladies

The trailer shows that Houda Benyamina's film intends to play with the codes of Alexandre Dumas' novel, but seems to stay quite far from any notion of parody or pastiche. Unsurprisingly, the tone turns out to be humorous, although we can perceive a certain bitterness through some very acidic replies (particularly in the answer to the question “You know what we do to women disguised as men? We hang them…”).

The official synopsis of All for one specifies that in this rereading of Three Musketeersthese are women posing as men who ensure the protection of the Queen of . The film should explore the question of being in the face of social pressures.

« When Sara, a young girl on the run, discovers that the Three Musketeers who protect the Queen of France are in reality women, she decides to leave with them and follow their example: transforming yourself to be free and yourself. »

Different era, different mount, same problems

Besides Oulaya Amamra and Déborah Lukumuena, the cast of All for one will be composed of Daphné Patakia (Blessed), Georgina Amorós (The Last Night of Sandra M.), Sabrina Ouazani (All that Shines), Némo Schiffman (The Promise of Dawn) and Martin Karmann (The Last Life of Simon) in the role of Richelieu.

All for onethe film directed by Houda Benyamina, will be released in French cinemas on January 22, 2025.
