Heath Ledger performed some passages
In the film, we can repeatedly see videos recorded by the Joker himself. The latter manages to project them live on TV on the GCN channel. Heath Ledger created his little pieces himself to give them an amateurish appearance that appears authentic.
This is particularly the case of the passage where we see the emblematic villain who presents a fake Batman to the camera, or the one with the hostages. The whole thing was supervised by Christopher Nolan who gave some advice, but the actor was keen to get his hands dirty.
Warner Bros had a bit of trouble with this version of the Joker
Jonathan Nolan, who participated in the production of this feature film alongside his brother Christopher, explained that the studio “didn’t understand” the direction the film wanted to take with Joker, a very dark and disturbing character.
The choice of Heath Ledger for this role was also not necessarily unanimous at the time. The two filmmakers ultimately remained straight in their boots, and it was a good thing for them as the final result is impressive.
The first scene is inspired by the film Heat
Michael Mann’s gem gave ideas to Christopher Nolan. This feature film indeed shows heist scenes, and the filmmaker has not denied having drawn his inspiration from this film which stars Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.
This is reflected in the initial scene where the Joker robs a bank with a group of accomplices. The timing is very calibrated and this moment allows us to get into the plot wonderfully. Christopher Nolan also explains that he took an example from Heat to give depth to the city of Gotham.
