Already the billion in sight?

Cinemas breathe a little better. With a titanic result of 155 million dollars for its first American weekend, Vice-Versa 2 ends several weeks of failures and disappointments at the box office. The production of the Luxo lamp studio explodes the 2024 record start held until now by Dune: Part Two with 82.5 million greenbacks.

It also records one of the best starts ever for an animated film, behind The Incredibles 2 (182.7 million) and The Lion King 2019 version (191.8 million), and ahead Super Mario Bros, the movie (146.4 million) and the first Vice versa (90 million). For comparison, the original film grossed $858 million worldwide.

In the world, success is also there. Vice-Versa 2 reached a total of $295 million, again one of the best debuts for an animated production. The sequel even marks the biggest start of all time in Colombia, and the second biggest in Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. A launch all the more impressive as the film has not yet been released in France, China and Japan, important markets. At this rate, the billion at the end of his career is within reach.

In the rest of the box office, Bad Boys: Ride or Die is also impressive with a decline of only 41% compared to last week. The fourth film in the action franchise recorded $33 million in its second weekend and brought its US cumulative total to 112 million. Its worldwide total reached 214 million dollars.

In third place, Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom still holds its place well, despite its sixth week of operation. The film added 5.2 million to its box office and reached 157 million in the United States. It should end its career not far from 400 million dollars worldwide, a nice score for a sequel without a big name on the bill.
