this new adaptation looks ultra-promising (trailer)

Often considered (rightly) as one of the greatest comics in history, Watchmen will be entitled to a new cinematographic adaptation, to the greatest pleasure of fans.

Watchmen: Two new films

Absolute legend of comics, Alan Moore is the author of numerous masterpieces, among which we obviously find V for Vendetta, From Hell, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Killing Joke or Watchmen. Published between 1986 and 1987 by DC Comics, the series has definitively established Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons among the essential names in the industry. It must be said that with The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller, Watchmen profoundly revolutionized the writing of superhero comics, by offering a more mature and more violent story, with much more complex and nuanced writing, while imposing a new grammar of comic book writing.

The series has already been the subject of two adaptations: in 2009, Zack Snyder proposed a version of the comic produced by Warner Bros., praised by some fans and strongly criticized by others, notably due to certain changes with the original work. In 2019, screenwriter Damon Lindelof proposed a sequel to Moore and Gibbons’ masterpiece with a high-quality television seriesproduced by HBO.

This week, Warner Bros. shared the trailer for the new adaptation of Watchmen in the form of two animated films. Announced for some time now, the project is very promising, and seems particularly respectful of the work of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. The trailer was presented during the Annecy Festival. According to our American colleagues fromIGNthe first part is due for release later this year, while the second part will be released in 2025.

The two films Watchmen therefore complete a very busy schedule for DC adaptations : remember that in the coming months, we will discover the new animated series on Amazon Prime Video Batman: Caped Crusader by Bruce Timm, before finding the Joker and Harley Quinn in the cinema in Joker: Folie À Deux next October. Series The Penguindirect sequel to the film The Batmanis expected on Max in September 2024. This is very tempting!
