If Zack Snyder is especially famous for his mature films with breathtaking special effects, the American filmmaker was also able to create an animated film far from the dark and violent universes that he usually develops.

Zack Snyder’s animated film

After Rebel Moon – whose Director’s Cut version was announced for this summer – Netflix has just presented the first images of Twilight of the Gods, the new animated series produced by Zack Snyder as part of its collaboration with the streaming platform . However, this is not the filmmaker’s first animated project. Years ago, Zack Snyder directed The Kingdom of Ga’Hoole – The Legend of the Guardians, a fourth feature film aimed at children which contrasts completely with the filmmaker’s previous projects.

Adaptation of the children’s book series The Guardians of Ga’Hoole, this first film tells the story of Soren, a young owl lulled by the tale of the Guardians, legendary winged warriors who saved the people from the threat of the owls of Ga’Hoole. Purebloods.

An astonishing project

Filmed in Australia in the studios of Animal Logic, which worked notably on Happy Feet or The Great Lego Adventure, The Kingdom of Ga’Hoole is an astonishing project within Zack Snyder’s filmography. Fruit of the collaboration between the Warner Bros studio and the filmmaker, The Kingdom of Ga’Hoole was directed by Snyder because he wanted to make a film for his children, while he had previously signed feature films which had at least been prohibited for under 12s in theaters. Unfortunately, The Kingdom of Ga’Hoole did not meet with the expected success. With an estimated budget of $100 million, the film grossed around $140 million at the Box Office. A mixed result which pushed Warner to abandon a possible sequel. Zack Snyder’s first foray into the world of animation was therefore a failure, hoping that his Twilight of the Gods series would manage to do better.
