More bad news for “Blade”! The superhero film starring Mahershala Ali loses its director again. Scheduled for November 2025, will the feature film be ready on time or will it be postponed again?

In the pipeline since 2019, the Blade project must take another hard blow! Postponed several times, the feature film is supposed to be released on November 5, 2025. However, it risks being postponed again because director Yann Demange has thrown in the towel.

New slap for Blade

According to The Wrap, the French filmmaker left the project, after an amicable agreement with Marvel Studios. This is the second time that the film with Mahershala Ali has lost its director. Initially, Bassam Tariq was in charge of the project. He resigned in September 2022.

Like Thor 2 with Patty Jenkins, Ant-Man with Edgar Wright, Doctor Strange 2 with Scott Derrickson or, more recently, Fantastic Four with Jon Watts, Blade therefore joins the list of Marvel Cinematic Universe projects which found themselves orphaned by their original director.

Take time

According to The Wrap, Marvel does not want to rush and take the time it takes for the film to be successful. Currently, the screenplay for Blade is written by Eric Pearson (Fantastic 4). Previous scripts were written by Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto and Michael Green. Who will take over from Yann Demange? The bets are open !

Initially scheduled for November 3, 2023, the film was finally postponed to September 6, 2024. It is now scheduled for November 5, 2025. Mahershala Ali is still attached to the project as a diurnambulist, a cult role formerly played by Wesley Snipes.

The first Blade trilogy grossed more than $400 million at the worldwide box office and greatly contributed to the rise of superhero films in cinemas.

While waiting for the return of Blade, the MCU will be back in theaters on July 24 with Deadpool & Wolverine!
