Released in June 2024 on Netflix, Under the Seine enjoyed immense success, to the point of becoming the most viewed French film on the streaming platform. And get ready: sharks will be making a comeback very soon.
One shark can sometimes hide it in another. This could be the motto of Under the Seinea huge story produced by Netflix, but which nevertheless fascinated the streaming platform's subscribers all over the world. A few months after its release, in June 2024, this undeniable success even became the most viewed French film in the entire history of Netflix, no less.
Centered on the hunt for a mutant shark creating havoc in the Seine, this feature film with Bérénice Bejo (The Artist) has clearly not said his last word. During an interview published by La Tribune on November 3, 2024, the actress revealed that a sequel was in preparation.
Under the Seine 2 will soon begin filming
Remember: at the end of Under the Seinesharks invaded Paris, causing chaos and destruction in their wake, while reproducing endlessly. Shells hidden at the bottom of the river even explode during the film's completely absurd finale, leaving the two main characters, Sophia and Adil, in a devastated capital invaded by sharks. And this final sequence will finally have a sequel, as Bérénice Bejo announced. The filming of Under the Seine 2 is scheduled for September 2025, with a release probably at the end of 2026 on Netflix.
It must be said that the first part exceeded 100 million views worldwide, according to Le Film Français. A success which therefore necessarily leads to a sequel, even if Bérénice Bejo affirms to the Tribune that it will be “ from another film, very different ». The star of Under the Seinethe famous shark, will obviously be back. Xavier Gens, the director, had already confided to Variety, in June 2024, that, if a second film were to see the light of day, he “would take place in a Paris entirely submerged under water”. So, can’t wait to dive alongside Bérénice Bejo again?
