already 3 million lovers for “L’Amour ouf”, is it good or is it not enough?

Nearly 4 million French people went to the cinema this weekend. Gilles Lellouche’s film attracted the majority of the crowds, like the latest Marvel and its “Venom”, third of the name. As for the new Eastwood, it's off to a really good start.

EBetween the school holidays and the three-day weekend due Friday, November 1, attendance at cinemas did not fail to jump: with more than 3.8 million tickets sold, it recorded the second best total of 2024 Enough to end the month of October on a high note, during which French cinemas totaled 15.53 million admissions, or 10.8% more than in October 2023. Love phew remains the strongest contributor to this influx of spectators between October 30 and November 3, with 762,000 new romantics won over and an impressive total already reaching 3 million admissions in three weeks. In second place follows the antihero of the Marvel universe, Venom : The Last Dance, which gathered 684,000 followers in 645 cinemas in five days. A satisfactory launch, behind the score of the first Venom (842,000 entries in 2018) but ahead of that of the second, Venom : Let There Be Carnage (541,000 entries in 2021).

While the first exhibition of Juror #2 is currently limited to 35 sites in the United States, its ambitious launch in 448 French theaters mobilized 385,000 faithful. In addition to placing France in first place in the world, this conclusive score is at the top of the list of Clint Eastwood films, just ahead The Exchange (372,000 entries in 2008). In fourth place, Mr Aznavour moved 385,000 additional fans. Enough to confirm the very good word of mouth for the biopic by Grand Corps Malade and Mehdi Idir, which already has 1 million admissions.

Satisfactory start for Anora, which attracted 177,000 moviegoers on 366 screens. This is of course the best start for filmmaker Sean Baker, far ahead The Florida Project (45,000 entries in 2017). In comparison with the two previous Palmes d’Or, Anatomy of a fall retains the lead (254,000 entries at startup), but Anora bat Without filter (152,000 entries). Excellent start also for the animated film by Gints Zilbalodis, Flow. The cat who was no longer afraid of water, which dazzled 136,000 dreamers in 300 theaters. It is, for example, well above The Red Turtle (62,000 entries) or I lost my body (48 000 entrées).

Still on the art house side, let us finally highlight the remarkable careers of Seeds of the wild fig tree by Mohammad Rasoulof (more than 500,000 entries) and The Story of Souleymane by Boris Lojkine (400,000 entries).
