Far from being a clown! The latest installment in the adventures of serial killer Art the Clown, Terrifier 3rose to the top of the French box office on Wednesday. The American horror film, which is prohibited for minors under 18 across , totaled no less than 45,000 admissions on the day of its cinema launch. That’s eight times more spectators than for the previous part.

A terrible Halloween scent

“I admit to not really having the words and being totally overwhelmed by what is happening,” the director of Terrifier 3Damien Leone. Mixing nihilism, sadism and crazy spirit, the feature film was shot on the American independent circuit, returning to the heyday of horror, in the cinema of the 1970s and 1980s. And a theatrical release a few days before Halloween, the great festival of fear, has a diabolical effect on success.

The speech of this terrible success? After surviving the Halloween massacre perpetrated by Art the Clown, Sienna and her brother try to find a more serene life. But that’s without counting on the return of Art the Clown, played by David Howard Thornton, who has decided to spoil the end of year celebrations.

Vomit, fruit of success

In addition to the context of Halloween, it is the scandal surrounding the film that contributes to the good start in theaters of the third opus of Terrifier. An unbearable scene with a chainsaw is even at the heart of all discussions. Also, during a preview in the United Kingdom, Damien Leone’s film caused discomfort and vomiting from spectators present in cinemas. Vomit bags were even given to spectators at the entrance to the theaters. It’s always better than throwing up in your neighbor’s popcorn.

Finally, the ban on under 18s increases everyone’s curiosity. Because it is well known, “it is forbidden to forbid”. However, and for the first time in twenty years, the Film Classification Commission has stamped Terrifier 3 of the label “prohibited under 18 years old”. So many more or less tasty elements that make a Terrifier 4 should soon see the light of day. Fear in cities guaranteed!
