Count Dooku: One of the most charismatic adversaries the Jedi Order has ever encountered in Star Wars. This powerful Sith, imagined by George Lucas and played by legendary actor Christopher Lee, is one of the major figures of the terrible Clone Wars. From his place in George Lucas’ creation to the legends that surround him in the expanded universe, here are 8 facts you (maybe) didn’t know about Count Dooku.

#6 Dooku was supposed to be a female character

Of the The Phantom Menace, George Lucas wanted the new Sith seen in his prequel to be radically different from Vader, and even more Palpatine, who will be present in each episode in the guise of Darth Sidious. Thus, His first idea was to make Darth Maul a Sith warrior. before finally changing his mind, as we explained in this article. After this missed appointment, he seems to have decided to make the new Sith present in L‘Attack of the Clones’ a fearsome Sith. Several concepts were thus created to imagine the future “Countess Dooku”.

Some ofConcept art imagined by the artists working on the film features never-before-seen species previously in the universe of Star Wars, such as a Medusa-inspired Sith Lord with snake-like hair, an aquatic species resembling the Kaminoans, and even a droid character who appears to have later inspired the creation of General Grievous. A final design even appears to have been chosen and nearly used, but when Christopher Lee was hired for the film, the character was scrapped. Countess Dooku’s character design would eventually be recycled by the brilliant Genndy Tartakovsky to create Asajj Ventress. in the first version of Clone Wars in an animated series. However, it must be said that we unfortunately still have not seen a female Sith in the films Star Wars.star war episode II attack of the clones count Dooku concet art Asajj ventress

#5 Dooku has a brother and a sister

So Dooku is a count. This title of nobility is at least surprising for a Jedi, but the fact is that Dooku is one of the few Jedi who has not completely cut ties with his family. It must also be said that Dooku was born into a very wealthy and influential family on the planet Serenno, in the Outer Rim Territories. The Dooku family is very powerful, so much so in terms of wealth and political influence, and is indeed one of the pillars of the Confederacy during the Clone Wars. Dooku’s parents proudly allowed their son to be trained by the Jedi Order. when they were called, as it would be a great honor for a family member to become a Jedi. However, becoming a Jedi should have originally prevented Dooku from keeping his noble title, which created a bond with his family, since any bond is strongly discouraged by the Jedi Code.

So it is Dooku’s brother, Ramil, who becomes the new Count of Serenno. Unfortunately, over the years, the one who was once Yoda’s apprentice himself has gradually distanced himself from the path of the Jedi. When he learns of the death of his former apprentice, Qui-Gon Jinn, it’s too much. Dooku renounces the Jedi Order. He returns to his planet, kills his brother and embraces his rank and fortune. His sister Jenza, however, was unknown to him, having been born after he left for the Jedi Order. However, after she tried to convince him to stay away from the dark side, Dooku ordered his apprentice, Asajj Ventress, to execute him.star wars count dooku and asajj ventress

#4 Dooku Became a Vampire (In Official Canon!)

Actor Christopher Lee’s career took off in 1958 when he first played the famous Count Dracula. From then on and for decades, the actor was the face of the famous vampire for fans of genre cinema but also for the general public. When George Lucas asked him to play a fearsome Sith Count who schemes from his castle to destroy the Republic, it is obvious thatHere he pays homage to the entire vampiric aspect of the actor’s career. It is to pursue this idea that the current official extended universe (Disney / Lucasfilm) has decided to drive the point home by allowing the character to become a space vampire within the lore of Star Wars.

In the comic book series Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader’s Castle, Dooku hatches a dark plot to take control of the galaxy. He allies himself with Lord Ravna, the leader of a strange vampiric species found on the planet Bray.. These bat-like creatures have the power to transform other beings into similar creatures with a simple scratch. At this point, Dooku intends to use these creatures as a tool to bring down the Republic during the Clone Wars. Obviously, Lord Ravna betrays Dooku, and he himself becomes infected. Dooku only manages to free himself by connecting to the Force through his anger. Ravna is eventually trapped under the rubble of the building, stuck there like a true vampire of legend.Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader’s Castle dooku vampire

#3 He had three (and a half) apprentices after going to the dark side

The Sith Rule of Two, instituted by Darth Bane long ago, states that‘There can only be two true Sith operating at any given time: a Master to wield the power and an apprentice to desire it. This was meant to maximize the art of deception and subversion, since in their never-ending war against the Jedi, the Sith have very often proven to be their own worst enemy by betraying and destroying each other endlessly (as we explained in this article right here). However, It must be acknowledged that (very) many Sith have circumvented this rule. over the years, and Dooku was no different. No sooner had he become Palpatine’s apprentice than Dooku was already choosing a new apprentice for himself.

The first of these was the fearsome Asajj Ventress, who was a major antagonist throughout much of the Clone Wars and even a rival to Ahsoka. The second was Savage Opress (Darth Maul’s brother), who the Count actually used more as a tool of revenge against his first apprentice, Asajj, than anything else. The third was one of the most popular Kiffar in the Expanded Universe, Jedi Master Quinlan Vos. Although Vos succumbed to the Sith’s influence, he and Asajj eventually became lovers, and she focused on saving him from the dark side. Eventually, even though General Grievous is not Force-sensitive, he is an excellent swordsman whose skills were enhanced through his training under Count Dooku and the advice the latter gave him.genndy tartakovsky

#2 Dooku played a significant role in the Mandalorian War

One of the most pivotal turning points during the Clone Wars was the Mandalorian War. This notoriously warlike people from the planet Mandalore have been enemies of the Jedi since the days of the Old Republic. While Mandalorians are not Force-sensitive, or at least not in the way the Jedi understand it, they are formidable opponents and have decimated many Jedi over the years. During the Clone Wars, A civil war breaks out on the planet Mandalore. This civil war pits a pacifist faction that is officially in power against the Death Watch, traditionalists trying to take control.

This conflict having the power to tip the Clone Wars, Dooku sees this as a great opportunity to recruit the Jedi’s former enemies into the Confederacy. This leads to a series of complex and grueling battles and plots, including terrorist actions by the Death Watch that even kill leading diplomats. The advantage turns for a time to the Death Watch, who then occupy Mandalore. However, the Mandalore War will undergo many more twists and turns and Dooku will not be able to reap all the benefits he had hoped for.star wars the clone wars count dooku and the death watch

#1 We know why Dooku never has yellow eyes like the other Sith

Unlike Anakin or Darth Maul, Dooku never displays the famous yellow eyes of the Sith. The official reason is difficult to determine. However, it is known that yellow eyes symbolize that a Sith is completely immersed in the dark side of the Force, giving in to blind rage and hatred. For example, in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Anakin Skywalker’s eyes turn yellow when he massacres the Separatist Council or after having his limbs cut off by Obi-Wan Kenobi. So while all Sith rely on negative emotions, Yellow eyes appear when pure rage is directed at a specific person or task. However, Dooku has a different approach to the dark side.

Dooku not only thinks highly of himself, but he also believes that he is acting against the Jedi for “good.” To him, the Jedi are wrong, corrupt, and too prone to unwelcome compromises with the Republic. Thus, even if he can despise a Master like Mace Windu, whom he considers, among other things, responsible for the death of his former disciple Qui-Gon Jinn, he does not hate him. DOoku never being in hatred or anger but always in a very personal quest for justice, he always considers himself superior to his opponents and is therefore perpetually in a form of haughty contempt. This emotional state therefore makes him a very unique Sith, but perhaps also a little less dangerous than most other dark side warriors.star wars count dooku deathIf you liked this article, feel free to discover 10 Facts You Might Not Know About General Grievous Dark MaulMace Windu, Palpatine, Yoda, Boba Fett, Qui Gon Jinn, Jabba, Ki Adi Mundi ou Dark Vader
