The good news that we no longer expected…

Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy -Walt Disney Pictures

The production of Tron: Ares started several weeks ago in the Vancouver area. Although we already had a good idea of the distribution of the third film in the franchise, we had not heard until now of the participation of actor Jeff Bridges in this new turn.

It is now done, since “The Dude” himself confirmed, on the podcast Film Comment, that he would indeed take part in the filming of the new feature film in the days to come. The latter’s role, however, does not seem as important as in the first two episodes.

The actor’s participation in Tron: Legacy notably gave us a first glimpse of how digital technologies would increasingly be able to rejuvenate an actor’s appearance for the good of the story. Obviously, the technology was still far from being perfect at the time, but the effort was still notable.

Actor Cameron Monaghan recently stated that Tron: Ares would honor its predecessors visually by pushing the boundaries of what is possible in terms of special effects in a whole new way.

As the title suggests, Tron: Ares will look at the journey of a highly sophisticated program called Ares, which will find a way to leave the digital world to give humanity its first notable contact with entities born of artificial intelligence.

This third chapter thus seems to be in line with the finale of Tron: Legacyin which the character Quorra (Olivia Wilde) made the same journey to the real world.

In addition to Jeff Bridges and Cameron Monaghan, we will find in the credits Jared Leto in the title role, Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith and Gillian Anderson.

Remember that the feature film is directed by Joachim Rønningwho had already worked on behalf of Disney studios by directing the Maleficient: Mistress of Evil And Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Tron: Ares is due to be released on October 10, 2025.
