Official trailer for the film Iron Man (2008):

Our opinion on Iron Man :

Not being an absolute fan of the Marvel galaxy, I overlooked some doubts about the cinematic interest of the new superhero Iron Man. The pressure was felt on my face even before entering the arena and the start of the film. How was Jon Favreau going to “put us to sleep”? Being used to the hollow scenarios of Spiderman, Hulk, etc. I imagined the worst. But the mere presence of Robert Downey Jr. gave me hope for a different and funny film. And by digging a little deeper, noticing in particular the presence of the screenwriters, Fergus and Ostby, the two “creators” of the fabulous film “The Sons of Man”, hope became belief. I believe in you, Jon Favreau!

From the first minutes, we happily discover that the comics tradition is respected. The caustic humor of Robert Downey Jr., aka Tony Stark, remains faithful to the comics. We let ourselves be entertained by the ingenuity he demonstrates, even if the steel armor is somewhat delayed. We will therefore criticize the length of sequences played in the “Hollywood-Afghan” caves.

Minimal flaws which also add to the traditional caricatures made by the Americans on Islamist terrorists. We always have the impression that they all come from the same creative studio. Finally, let’s move on…

It’s a film that also attempts some profound breakthroughs into psychoanalysis.
Yes, you are not dreaming, Iron Man is wondering about his role in life. He manages to do it without getting lost, as does Jon Favreau, to our great relief.

The choice of actors is judicious: Terrence Howard is perfect as Colonel Rhodey, his lifelong friend. The astonishing Gwyneth Paltrow brilliantly plays Stark’s assistant, Virginia “Pepper” Potts. The chemistry between the two actors is astonishingly effective.
Jeff Bridges plays the role of Obadiah Stane’s intriguer. We won’t say more for the sake of the film.

Fanatics will no doubt criticize the lack of action scenes, typical of most Marvel films. For the defense, I would venture to say that with Robert Downey Jr. on hand, we might as well make him talk. It’s the best in the category. And with Iron ManJohn Favreau seems to be of the same opinion.

So, in order to relieve the most anxious, I would like to be able to say to you: “My Marvelian brothers, perhaps we are the exception”?

Well yes, we have it… Hallelujah!
