To remember

Civil War remains the leader at the end of the weekend at the American box office. Alex Garland’s film, which had a launch of over $25 million – a record for the studio behind the film, the prestigious company A24 – recorded an additional $11.1 million. It’s more than the main novelty of the week, the horror film Abigail.

For the record, after Ex Machina, Annihilation and Men, Alex Garland signs his fourth film with Civil War. In a near future where the United States is on the brink of collapse, embedded journalists race to tell the biggest story of their lives: the end of America as we know it.

Abigail achieves a score very close to Civil War. This new release, a horror film directed by the duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream V and VI), tackles a monument of horror: Dracula! In Abigail, the filmmakers present us with a group of people who kidnap young people. Unfortunately for them, their latest victim is none other than Dracula’s daughter herself. Abigail comes out on May 29 in . Godzilla x Kong: The New Kingdom is now in 3rd place at the box office.

What are the other new features of the week?

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the new Guy Ritchie, and Spy x Family Code: White are the two other new releases at the American box office. The rest of the ranking remains quite close to last week, with Kung Fu Panda 4 (6th), Ghostbusters: The Ice Menace (7th), Dune 2 (8th), Monkey Man (9th) and finally The Curse: The Origin (10th).
