In this new episode of the La Réu’ d’Écran Large podcast, a look back at the MonsterVerse, which brings together Godzilla and King Kong.

With Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Warner’s MonsterVerse confirms the public’s attraction to big monsters who beat each other up like they were in a supermarket parking lot. We can even say that after the fiasco of Godzilla by Roland Emmerich, it is quite surprising to see American cinema bring back the kaiju eiga to the forefront, and make it a box office heavyweight.

In reality, behind the obvious opportunism of creating a shared universe at a time of powerful franchises, the MonsterVerse may have found a certain balance between its continuity and its profound absence of seriousness. Or at least, this is the evolution that the saga chose after the elegance of Godzilla by Gareth Edwards, who we really like at Ecran Large.

So what do we think of the state of this franchise? This is the subject of this new episode of La Réu’ d’Ecran Large, where Antoine, Déborah and Mathieu look back on the different films of the MonsterVerse, its origins and its expansion on the small screen side.
