The scarlet platform has made a decision that is surprising to say the least, which may not be unanimous among its subscribers.

Netflix and its large catalog of films

The great thing about Netflix is that it offers a lot of different content. Series, documentaries, reality TV, but above all, feature films are available on this streaming platform. Here, spectators can discover a myriad of programs of all kinds, from different countries. What makes this SVOD service special is that it allowed directors to give free rein to their creativity, benefiting from a substantial budget and the presence of Hollywood stars.

In this context, subscribers were able to watch films like Red Notice starring actors like Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, or even The Gray Man which stars Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049, Blonde) Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. In short, spectators have become accustomed to seeing major productions on their home screens. Alas, all good things come to an end and Netflix no longer wants to make blockbusters with world-famous stars, leading in particular to the cancellation of a promising science fiction film.

Netflix and blockbusters, it’s over

In The New York Times, it was officially announced that Netflix no longer wants to produce blockbusters with what they call “big talent” like Red Notice. They want to concentrate on cheaper feature films, which are released less frequently, but which are of better quality.

In this context, Netflix decided to announce a science fiction film that seemed promising. This is “Aurora”, the adaptation of the SF novel by David Koepp, which was to mark the return of director Kathryn Bigelow (Minesweepers, Point Break) after 7 years of absence. Sad news for those who were looking forward to discovering a new science fiction production on their screen. While the old system of regular blockbusters seemed to work well, Netflix is moving in another direction. Many Internet users did not appreciate that the scarlet streaming platform released films one after the other, believing that it harmed the quality of the works, as if they were made in a hurry. Thus, this decision could be beneficial for the SVOD service, but also for subscribers.
