It is Alexi Espargaro, future Honda driver, who has just made some encouraging remarks, to say the least, concerning the medium-term future of Honda in MotoGP. Because, if according to him the Japanese brand is currently the most in difficulty, it is also the one with the greatest potential.
MotoGP: Aleix Espargaro confident about the Honda project
As part of an interview with the Spanish media AS, the current Aprilia rider spoke about Honda and his new role within the latter, starting next season. Also, the Spaniard announces a victory for the Japanese firm before 24 months.
« Honda can recover, and faster than many think,” he says. “When I announced my retirement, I was lucky enough to be able to choose where I was going to go. Honda is undoubtedly the factory with the most potential in the championship, and the one that is struggling the most at the moment. But remember this interview, because Honda will win another Grand Prix in less than 24 months »
In addition, he mentions the success obtained with Aprilia, a manufacturer that does not have the resources of Honda and with which he succeeded, by his own admission, with a rider with less talent.
« That Aprilia achieved what it accomplished with a pilot who didn't have half the talent of the otherswho hasn't won anything before and hasn't finished on the podium, it's incredible. Simply incredible. Two years ago we fought for the world championship. We won races, we got on the podium and [partis] a pole.”
In other words, without saying it, Aleix Espargaro seems to imply that he knows the recipe for winning and that he will benefit Honda from it. It now remains to be defined how his collaboration with Johann Zarco, a rider with whom he has never had a good relationship, will take place in MotoGP. Knowing that it is the Frenchman who acts as a reference at Honda and that as such, the two men will have to exchange ideas and work together…
