The MotoGP Valencia Grand Prix is canceled. Dorna Sports, the company that owns the rights to the MotoGP world championship, announced this Friday 1is November that the race scheduled on the Ricardo Tormo circuit, from November 15 to 17, is canceled. The cause: the torrential rains which fell on eastern Spain on Tuesday October 29 and which caused terrible floods. A provisional report from the Spanish authorities shows 205 victims this Friday 1is November at 2 p.m.
Since the tragedy, the circuit located in Cheste near Valencia has served as a relief center for those affected. “Nearly a hundred people had to spend the night in different areas of the Cheste facilities (city where the circuit is located). The gym, offices and other places away from the power served as temporary shelter for workersdeclared Wednesday Nicolás Collado, general director of the circuit. Now begins a damage assessment process. »
Dorna studies a fallback solution
Ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix which takes place this weekend, many drivers had called to compete in the last race weekend “elsewhere than in Valencia” including Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia, the two drivers vying for the world champion title. “Out of respect for the people there, and in terms of logistics, I think the best solution would be to go elsewhere”declared the Spaniard Martin (Ducati-Pramac), leader of the world championship.
“The ethical aspect is the most difficult for me. Competing in a Grand Prix there must be a celebration. Given the current situation, this is not correct”abondé are Italian rival Bagnaia (Ducati). “If it’s my choice, I would prefer not to race there. I think there are plenty of other options”he insisted. The cancellation of the race, on the other hand, would be “unfair”he warned. Marc Marquez (Ducati-Gresini) also gave priority to the victims and not the race. “It makes no sense to start repairing the damage when there are many people without shelter”declared the Ducati-Gresini rider, ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang.
With the Valencia Grand Prix due to be the final event of the MotoGP season, Dorna Sports has announced that it is now studying alternative circuits.
