Kick’s Eddie Craven claims signing Dr DisRespect would be harmful to the platform

In a live interview with esports journalist Rod “Slasher” Breslau, Kick co-founder Eddie Craven revealed his thoughts about potentially signing Dr DisRespect to the streaming platform. Slasher questioned Craven about the controversial YouTuber who has been mired in a grooming scandal after reports claiming he sent inappropriate messages to a minor went viral earlier this year.

Craven made it clear that he has no intention of offering a deal to Dr DisRespect, claiming that if the Doc were to sign a contract, it would harm Kick from a financial perspective:

“Um, yeah. Making a deal with Dr DisRespect from a financial and a business perspective right now would make zero sense. It would do more harm for Kick and it would be a waste of money at this point in time is my opinion.”

Dr DisRespect is not getting a deal from Kick says CEO Eddie Craven

Slasher was one of the journalists who brought forward the reports about Dr DisRespect’s alleged transgressions earlier this year. The journalist’s piece for the Rolling Stones about the supposed reasons behind the streamer’s ban from Twitch and how he allegedly sent sexually explicit texts to a minor became the talk of the streaming community in June 2024.

Slasher got on Eddie Craven’s recent livestream to talk about the streaming industry and the journalist noted how the co-founder of Kick had previously been unwilling to comment about Dr DisRespect’s career on the platform.

At the 2:26:35 mark of the livestream, Slasher asked Eddie if he would offer the streamer a deal right now:

“Okay Eddie, just a couple more. You said that it was too early to say if you are going to ban or let Dr DisRespect stream on the platform. Would you ever offer, at this time, him a contract considering he does not have one?”

The journalist further noted how YouTube has yet to re-monetize Dr DisRespect’s livestreams after his channel was demonetized following the controversy:

“Monetization options have not been reverted back to his YouTube stream. Do you have any difference in opinion than what you had a couple of months ago?”

Eddie Craven believed that offering Doc a deal would be pointless from a financial point of view. The Australian businessman acknowledged the drama surrounding the scandal, but insisted that it would be a waste of money to bring Dr DisRespect on board:

“Without getting into drama, I am talking from the business perspective, it would be a waste of money.”

Slasher had many more illuminating questions for Eddie Craven during the live stream. During the conversation, the Kick co-founder also revealed that Sneako, who recently joined Kick, has not been offered a deal.
