Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia is again the man behind the lens for The Platform 2 as Netflix gives way to its 2019 sequel. With an element of science fiction embedded with horror, the franchise continues to raise the excitement of the fans as the movie premiers on October 4, 2024.
The Platform (2019) has one of the highest viewerships on Netflix as a non-English film. So, as the sequel unravels we get to witness a tense development inside the tower-like prison(as shown in the first movie) where the inmates face challenges daily.
The filming of the movie reportedly took place in Spain (Bilbao) as we get to see stars from shows like Money Heist and Game of Thrones taking up lead roles. The Platform 2 brings forth a different inmate this time who becomes the leader of the rebellion against the cruel method of food distribution inside the ‘Pit’.
What are the release details of The Platform 2?
The initial screening of The Platform 2 took place at the San Sebastian International Film Festival (72nd edition). However, the movie was released by Netflix on its streaming platform on October 4, 2024, and can now be watched with a subscription. There have been no reports about its theatrical release so far.
What is the plot of The Platform 2?
The vertical Self-Management prison, commonly known as the ‘Pit’ from the first part, is back in The Platform 2 with a new series of suspense, thrill, and horror. The prison is built like a tall vertical tower with a platform filled with food.
With more than a hundred floors, the prison is filled with inmates who receive food at their respective levels.
The prisoners, in exchange for lenience or other favors, take part in a cruel game where all of them only have a few seconds to gobble the food on the platform. According to the rules, the floors have to be switched every week.
The ones on the higher floors get fresh food while people on the lower floors are left with only scraps, leftovers, and sometimes even empty plates.
The ‘Pit’ has its rules devised by the inmates to make sure that fairness is maintained – every prisoner eats their favorite food and leaves out the rest. But it’s not long before chaos is unleashed upon the inmates as these rules are broken.
With an oppressive leader at large, the movie reaches its climax as the prisoners are mistreated to be kept in order.
Who is on the cast of The Platform 2?
Milena Smit and Hovik Keuchkerian will play their roles as Perempuan and Zamiatin respectively. The latter is known for his notable work in Money Heist. Among others on the cast, is Natalia Tena known for her work in Game of Thrones. She is cast as Sahabat with Oscar Jaenada as Dagin Babi.
The Platform 2 is now available for streaming on Netflix.
