Who is Othman Nasrou, this Franco-Moroccan in Barnier’s government?

Born in Casablanca in 1987, Othman Nasrou is the new Franco-Moroccan in the French government. Michel Barnier’s new team also includes Rachida Dati, who inherits the Culture and Heritage portfolio. Othman Nasrou was appointed, Saturday evening, Secretary of State for Citizenship and the Fight against Discrimination under the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau.

After studying at HEC , this Franco-Moroccan became involved in politics at a very young age and was part of the political party “Les Républicains” (LR). In 2014, he became a municipal councillor in in the Parisian suburbs. His movement “Trappes Citoyens” positioned itself as the city’s leading opposition force during the municipal elections.

In 2015, the new Secretary of State for Citizenship was elected regional councilor, before being appointed vice-president of the Île-de- region (Paris region), in charge of Tourism and International Affairs. Two years later, Nasrou became a resident of the majority group in the region, then, two years after that, that of vice-president of Saint-Quentin-en-, in charge of Economic Development.

In 2020, he was elected Vice-President of the Île-de-France region, in charge of European and International Affairs. A year later, he was appointed Vice-President of the Île-de-France region in charge of youth, the Republican promise, guidance and professional integration, higher education and research, and First Deputy Secretary General of the Republicans (LR). In this capacity, he led the campaign for the presidency of the LR in 2022.
