Marc Ferracci succeeds Roland Lescure

Michel Barnier’s government is made up of 19 full ministers (including eight women), 15 deputy ministers and five secretaries of state. And among the new leaders of , we find Anne Genetet at the head of National Education and Marc Ferracci who succeeds another deputy of the French abroad, Roland Lescure (elected in the first constituency), at the Ministry of Industry.

A record rise for the French representative of Switzerland linked to an equally exceptional career.

Who is Marc Ferracci?

Marc Ferracci was a professor of economics at the Panthéon-Assas University, and has been politically involved with Emmanuel Macron since 2017. He was notably his economic advisor during his first presidential campaign.

Following the investiture of the Head of State, the academic joined the government as a special advisor to the Minister of Labor Muriel Pénicaud. He implemented several reforms, such as apprenticeships and unemployment insurance. In the summer of 2020, he became Emmanuel Macron’s advisor responsible for monitoring measures to support activity and the organization of the recovery plan.

In 2022, he threw himself into the deep end by running in the 6th constituency of French people abroad, i.e. Switzerland and Liechtenstein. He was elected there with 64.97% of the vote against the NUPES candidate, and was re-elected in the last election in July 2024.

The Ministry of Industry

Since May 20, 2022, Bruno Le Maire has been Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty. On July 4, 2022, Roland Lescure seconded him as Minister Delegate for Industry.

This ministry has a relatively broad scope. Indeed, it is the coordinator of the defense and promotion of employment in the industrial sector and services. It exercises supervision of the establishments of the networks of chambers of trades and crafts and chambers of commerce and industry. It exercises the attributions relating to the creation of companies and the simplification of the formalities incumbent on them.

In this context, Roland Lescure was also a very good minister leading the fight for reindustrialization. In 2023 alone, 57 new factories opened in France, making a total of 201 new industrial sites, including site expansions with new production lines, compared to 176 in 2022.

Will Marc Ferracci be able to do better in the Barnier government? From the university to the field, the realities can be different. But as the French in Switzerland have been able to see, Marc Ferracci has a great capacity for listening and adaptation.
