During periods of high heat, brush can burst into flames in just a few moments. In exposed departments, such as Corsica or Occitanie, land owners must therefore ensure clearing. But for it to be effective, you have to wait for the right time and carry out several jobs. However, it is necessary to take into account the regulations in force which differ depending on whether the land is in an urban or rural area.
In urban areas, it is the owner of a construction, a site or any other installation who is responsible for clearing. In rural areas, all owners of land living 200 m from a forest are concerned, whether the land has a building or not. If a tenant lives on the premises, the rental lease specifies whether it is up to him or the owner to maintain the land.
In itself, clearing land can be carried out throughout the year, as long as it is done outside of bird nesting periods. However, authorities recommend carrying out this maintenance between September and February. The winter period, from December onwards, nevertheless remains the most popular. In fact, the risk of fire is almost zero due to low temperatures and the return of rain.
