Israeli police and the General Security Service (Shabak) announced on Friday that they were investigating suspected arson and vandalism against a mosque in Samaria (northern West Bank).

“Israeli police and the General Security Service (Shabak) have opened an investigation into the incident that occurred last night in the village of Marda in Samaria (northern West Bank),” the police said in a statement.

The investigation began after an assessment of the situation and officers are collecting evidence and clues at the scene, the text states.

“We take this incident seriously and will work determinedly to bring those responsible to justice,” the police report added.

Palestinian media published video footage of the attacked mosque and graffiti painted at the scene that spoke of “revenge” and the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem. These reports suggest that extremist settlers are behind these acts of aggression.
