Project Zomboid is a zombie-themed open-world survival game with an isometric view. This independent title is developed by the small team at The Indie Stone. Presented in 2011 with an Alpha version on Desura, it landed on Steam in 2013. Still in Early Access, but supported for 12 years by a dedicated team.
Over the years, Project Zomboid has won over many players looking for an open-world zombie survival experience. It offers an alternate version of 1993 with the Knox event, which marks the start of the zombie epidemic. The goal? Survive as long as possible from the quarantined city of Louisville.
Project Zomboid: The long-awaited Build 42 is available in Open Beta
Teased at the end of November during the Thursdoids classic, the team has finally released Build 42 of Project Zomboid. A release that arrives three years after the Stable version of Build 41. Presented over the years with small demonstrations, it is now available.
Available since December 17, 2024 under an “Unstable” version, that is to say a sort of open Beta before the final launch. A fantastic surprise just in time for Christmas with the introduction of many new mechanics and game content.
Project Zomboid Build 42 – What’s new?
As mentioned on the Steam Blog, Build 42 Unstable brings many new features to Project Zomboid:
- Extended Map : Many new game areas with new cities, new locations, underground spaces and buildings.
- Animals : Possibility of raising farm animals, hunting wild animals, and the introduction of fishing.
- Crafting Overview : A first introduction to Crafting with skill trees for blacksmithing and pottery.
- New Gameplay Content : New weapons, clothing and items. Ability to drag or throw corpses out of the window. Rebalancing stealth and combat.
- Performance and UI : Improved lighting with darker nights and more stable overall performance. General overhaul of the user interface with new menus such as Crafting.
Accompanied by various updates and many new stories. A major update, with the team ready to collect initial feedback and resolve any issues with this Unstable Build. The full version of Crafting and the return of multiplayer are already in preparation.
Project Zomboid Build 42: Important Things to Note
Being an Open Beta version of the Project Zomboid update, the team has issued some important warnings:
- Build 42 is a version currently under development
- This Preview version mainly aims to collect the first feedback. The team will gradually add the missing features.
- It is important to note that Build 42 is not compatible with Build 41 saves and mods.
- In addition to possible bugs and imbalances, saves could be corrupted at the end of the Unstable version.
Project Zomboid: How to participate in the new Beta update
It is crucial to regularly save your games to avoid losing your progress. To try Project Zomboid version 42, follow these steps:
- Right-click on Project Zomboid in your Steam library
- Go to Properties, then in the Betas section, select Unstable Branch
