At Olympique de Marseille, several players are considered undesirable and are likely to leave the club this winter. The Marseille management intends to compensate for each of these possible departures.
Last summer, Olympique de Marseille carried out a huge overhaul in its squad. Many talented players have arrived. To ensure a healthy financial balance, Marseille management tried to remove unwanted players. Problem is, some of them did not accept any offer and are today considered burdens by the club. With the winter transfer window fast approaching, these players will once again be the subject of requests. No worries for Marseille supporters, the Longoria-Benatia tandem intends to compensate for each departure of the Marseille squad.
Each compensated departure, OM will be active
According to information from RMC Sport, all departures during the next winter transfer window will therefore be compensated by the purchase of a new player. Pablo Longoria affirmed during his last press conference that Olympique de Marseille would be active in the next transfer window. The goal is to ensure qualification for the Champions League, a state of affairs which would allow the economic model of the Marseille club to prosper. Before that, an internal meeting is planned soon, between Roberto De Zerbi, Mehdi Benatia and the Olympian president, in order to give clear and defined objectives to the winter transfer window.
From a general point of view, the departures planned for January mainly concern the defensive sector. Chancel Mbemba is strongly pushed out, but he clings to his last months of contract with OM. If he has had his chance since his arrival last summer, Lilian Brassier is also redirected towards the exit. A loan with a purchase option is expected, provided that the final and obligatory purchase of Brest is completed before then. Same observation for Bamo Meïté who does not convince. Before compensating for these departures, however, Marseille management knows that it must find an arrangement to make these players leave. A defensive sector at half mast which will really need a facelift.
