It was around 7:30 a.m. this Friday, December 20, 2024, when a bus caught fire at the top of rue Georges-Lafaurie in Le Havre. If no casualties are to be deplored, the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames.
It was a bus customized by the artist Jacein 2012, with its famous Gouzous. Asked by 76actufrom Le Havre, now based in Reunion, specifies that even if he is used to seeing his works disappear in one way or another, he is “pained for the people of Le Havre”.
I know they loved seeing that bus go by.
And it’s true. “Oh no, it’s really a shame,” says Clara, a student in Le Havre. “Not that bus!” », Indicates another Internet user. On site, moreover, the Lia technicians confide that they are already dreaming of a new bus customized by Jace.
The magic of the Gouzous
Le Havre became famous thanks to its Gouzous, these little faceless characters who are easily identifiable. The first of them actually saw the light of day more than 30 years ago.
“I wanted something a little more personal. So I spent a weekend looking for a little character that could be created quickly with the street conditions we know, without authorization therefore. I also wanted people to be able to recognize it quickly. And that’s how it came to this little guy,” he confided to us.
Within the Océane city, the first of these Gouzous appeared near the Saint-Michel church, then near the trade basin.
A mechanical problem is believed to be the cause of the fire which ravaged the bus.
