Easton Cowan scored a hat trick to help Canada defeat Switzerland 7-1 in a preseason game for the World Junior Hockey Championship on Thursday in Ottawa.

The Canadiens scored three goals in a span of 82 seconds late in the first period and never looked back.

Brayden Yager, Andrew Gibson, Berkly Catton and Caden Price also lit the red light for Canada.

Léo Braillard scored the only goal for the Swiss.

It was the first of three preparatory matches for the Canadian team ahead of the World Juniors which will begin the day after Christmas.

Junior Team Canada will face Sweden on December 21 and the Czech Republic on December 23. She will then begin the competition against Finland on December 26.
