Russian authorities say they have arrested an Uzbek citizen suspected of involvement in an explosion in Moscow that killed a top Russian military general.

A device exploded Tuesday near the entrance to a residential building in the Russian capital, killing Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov and his deputy. The general was the head of a military unit responsible for biological and chemical warfare.

Russia’s Federal Security Service, or FSB, said Wednesday that the arrested man was recruited by Ukraine’s special operations agency.

It is stated that the suspect placed an explosive device on an electric scooter and parked it near the entrance to the building.

The FSB also said that a video camera had been installed nearby to monitor the entrance. The footage taken by the camera could be seen online by organizers in Ukraine and the explosive device is believed to have been detonated remotely as Mr Kirillov left his home.

The FSB released a video showing the man being questioned. In this document, he claims that he was offered $100,000 and a European passport.

In a statement, the FSB said: “Employees of the Ukrainian special services involved in organizing the terrorist attack will be sought out and punished as they deserve. »

Ukrainian media reported that the country’s security services were involved in the murder of the Russian general.
