This Friday, December 20, the markets will wait with anxiety and impatience for the “four witches” day event. A mechanical phenomenon which is not always easy to understand and whose importance and consequences remain difficult to anticipate on the stock markets.

When we mention the expression “Four Witches” Friday, we could quickly imagine an event linked to Halloween. This is not the case. This is a regular phenomenon in the stock markets and tends to make investors fearful or even impatient.

Friday of the “four witches” («quadruple witching day» in English) occurs every quarter: on the third Friday of March, June, September and December. The next one will take place this Friday, December 20. “During this day, options expire just like futures contracts, i.e. futures, on indices and stocks”expliquent Antoine Andreani, Head of Research chez XTB.
