War in Ukraine: he calls for a duel, Putin suggests hitting Kyiv with Oreshnik to prove that Western technology “has no chance” of intercepting his missile

At the end of November, Vladimir Putin announced the launch of production of these Oreshnik missiles, capable, according to him, of hitting highly protected objects located at great depths.

During the annual press conference he gave this Thursday, December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that the Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile, recently used to strike the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, cannot be intercepted by the Western air defense systems. Western technology “has no chance” against this missile, he declared, reports the American channel ABC.

The Russian president even suggested organizing “an experiment or a duel” in which Russia would choose a target in Kyiv for a strike using the Oreshnik missile and during which Ukraine would set up its air defenses provided by the West to intercept the missile.

Vladimir Putin had announced Russia’s intention to mass produce these experimental ballistic missiles. On November 21, Russia tested the missile on Dnipro, Ukraine. A Russian response, according to Vladimir Putin, to Ukraine’s use of long-range American and British missiles to strike deep into Russian territory.

The heat released reaches a temperature of 5,000 or 6,000 degrees

Thursday, November 28, Vladimir Putin announced the launch of production of these Oreshnik missiles. Also detailing the capabilities of these hypersonic missiles: “It is made up of dozens of self-dispersed warheads which attack a target at a speed of Mach 10. This represents approximately three kilometers per second. The heat released reaches a temperature of 5,000 or 6,000 degrees, more than on the surface of the Sun. Therefore, everything at the epicenter of the explosion is divided into fractions, elementary particles and essentially turns into dust.

He said the missile could even hit “highly protected objects located at great depths.” A way of warning Ukraine while the Kiyv metros serve as a refuge during Russian attacks.
