After a few months of studies, then negotiations to comply with the NOTRe law which requires municipalities to transfer their water and sanitation competence to a public establishment, and by deliberation of the Municipal Council, the municipality made the choice to transfer this skill at Sydec, already present in half of the municipalities in the department.
Laurent Civel, general director of Sydec services, briefly recalled the history of the union which was born with the generalization of electrical equipment in 1937 until the establishment of the water service in 1985, then the sanitation in 1999 until digital development with the recent installation of fiber and other prospects to come.
With undeniable know-how and a good presence in the field, with a technical branch in Pouillon, Sydec can intervene quickly on the networks. It is already present in Peyrehorade for the supply of drinking water and the treatment of wastewater.
Workforce at 1is January
After diagnosis of the operation and state of the network, the terms of an agreement were established to allow this transfer which will be effective on 1is next January. An annual investment amount for works has been decided (200,000 euros for sanitation and 100,000 euros for drinking water), the details of which are voted on by the Sydec territorial committee, where the municipality is headquartered.
The two agents from the current service will join the technical service of the municipality, while agents from Sydec will now intervene in the operation and maintenance of the distribution of drinking water to users.
A letter signed jointly by Didier Sakellarides, mayor, and the President of Sydec will soon reach users to provide all useful information. And, during the time necessary to answer all questions, the union will be on duty every Thursday in the France Services premises at the headquarters of the community of communes, route de Mahoumic. Ultimately, the operation should not have any adverse impact on users’ bills.
