The working meeting, organized a month ago, did not really succeed in resolving the situation. Around thirty local residents showed up during the last municipal council meeting in December, to try to get answers and concrete elements. Following the floods which seriously affected the department during the Kirk depression in October, around a hundred homes were damaged. Yves Marie, mayor of Gallardon and member of the committee of the joint union of Drouette, de la Voise and their tributaries (SMDVA), provides some information.
The floods hit Gallardon hard. A first in the town.
This is an exceptional event that has never happened. In the memory of living man, we have never seen this. We are not safe from the possibility that it could come back given the climatic context. As a municipality, we are victims without being able to act very much since at the local level we have possibilities for action which are weak in relation to the issues which go far beyond our territory. Floods in Gallardon are mainly the cause of runoff water, which comes from beyond the municipality, the intercommunity and even the department.
Post-flood management is singled out by residents who have the impression that everyone is “passing the buck”.
To understand how this is managed, you need to understand the role of each person and the distribution of skills. The management of aquatic environments and flood prevention (GEMAPI) is a competence entrusted to intercommunities since January 1, 2018. In our territory, GEMA competence has been exercised since 2013 by the SMVA (Mixed Union of the Voise and its tributaries) .
