During an evening in support of Mayotte, this Monday, December 17, the presenter of “Don’t forget the words” reacted to a comment by the new Prime Minister about the inhabitants of the island.

Yesterday evening, 2 provided support to the island of Mayotte, recently devastated by Cyclone Chido. During this evening entitled “United For Mayotte”, the new prime minister was taken up by Nagui, co-presenter of the live show alongside Karine Baste. When the latter mentioned the destroyed homes but especially the shanty towns, shown in images by La Deux, François Bayrou made a comment that Nagui visibly perceived as a misstep.

“Will these slums be included in the natural disaster plan? We are talking about houses that are not insured, of a population that is not insured”deciphers Karine Baste. And his co-presenter adds. “These are those of a population which is not recorded”underlines Nagui, surely wishing to indicate that the number of victims of the cyclone would therefore be difficult to assess, making the treatment of victims difficult.

“A big congratulations to Nagui”: viewers won over by the new setting of “Don’t forget the words”

The Prime Minister then speaks: “This is a population that, from a documentation point of view, is illegal. But from the point of view of life, they are men and women…” François Bayrou is then interrupted by Nagui: “Excuse me, is the topic today whether it’s legal or not legal?” The Prime Minister agrees. “Exactly no”he begins before Karine Baste offers him a way out. “Does this mean that tonight, everyone is Mahorais, in the territory?”suggests the presenter of France 5.

His interlocutor nods. “Everyone is Mahorais, you are, we are Mahorais”François Bayrou quickly resumes, before redirecting his speech towards other subjects. “And now we have to act because there is a lack of electricity. Two of the factories are back, we have about fifty percent of the electricity that has been restored, two of the water plants are back…”
