The metropolis of accelerates the transformation of Givors 2 Vallées

The Metropolis of recently approved a subsidy from the Territorial Cohesion Agency (ANCT) to support the Givors 2 Vallées commercial zone, seriously affected by flooding linked to the Cévennes flood of October 17. This initiative is part of the call for national projects aimed at transforming commercial zones.
Thanks to €75,000 in aid granted by the ANCT, studies and engineering work will be carried out to study development scenarios for this strategic area. Located in a red zone of the Gier natural flood risk prevention plan, the area is particularly vulnerable to flooding. This grant comes at the right time, one month after the devastating floods which affected businesses, employees and residents in the sector.
Bruno BernardPresident of the Lyon Metropolis, underlined the urgency of making this sector resilient in the face of extreme climatic events, which risk becoming more frequent and intense. He insisted on the importance of protecting both workers in the area and residents of neighboring districts, particularly that of Cornets, who are highly exposed to the risk of flooding. “These studies should allow us to move forward with the City, the State and economic players towards operational solutions. It is crucial that the necessary decisions are made quickly to begin the work”he said.

This project is also part of a broader approach to territorial redevelopment, proposed by the Metropolis of Lyon and the City of Givors. A territorial mission was set up to define a partnership contract with the State, aimed at coordinating transformation efforts.
The overall objective is to combine economic development and resilience in the face of natural risks.
The transformation of the Givors 2 Vallées area constitutes a concrete example of this ambition. Although the work to come will take time, this initiative marks a first decisive step towards a more secure future adapted to the climate challenges of tomorrow.
