Less than a year after the Kings World Cup organized in Mexico in May and June 2024, Gerard Piqué will launch the Kings World Cup Nations from January 1 to 12, 2025 in Turin. Unlike its previous competition, where content creator Amine had composed a French selection with Samir Nasri and Jérémy Ménez, no team will represent France during the Kings World Cup Nations contested in Italy. But that doesn’t stop Gerard Piqué from working hard to give visibility to the tournament.
And this Wednesday, the former Barça defender turned accomplished businessman launched a challenge to the Espanyol Barcelona club. Via a video, Gerard Piqué proposed a friendly match between the Catalan club, currently 18th in Liga, and the Spanish representative of the Kings World Cup Nations.
“A rival of our level”
Just to show some form, Gerard Piqué did not hesitate to send a little dig at Espanyol in his letter addressed to President Chen Yangsheng. The 2010 world champion compares the level of the La Liga club to that of the Spanish selection.
“From January 1, the Kings World Cup Nations will take place in Italy, with the final at Juventus Stadium on January 12. To prepare the Spanish team, we want to invite a rival of our level to play a match in the format of the Kings League”, wrote the former Barça defender. “That’s why, taking advantage of the Christmas holidays, we thought about the Espanyol first team.”
One million euros for the winner
After the small chambering, a sort of bravado to encourage Espanyol to accept the challenge, Gerard Piqué also clearly addressed the financial aspect of such a meeting between his team and that of La Liga. In order to convince the president of the Barcelona club, the ex-defender offered a nice check for the winner: one million euros to be paid by the defeated team.
“As an incentive, we are ready to bet the sum of one million euros, which the loser will have to pay to the winner. Awaiting a quick response. Kind regards, Gérard Piqué.” A great way to push Espanyol to take up this challenge and play it to the fullest.
