VIDEO – This Tuesday, December 17, François Bayrou was on the set of the show United for Mayottebroadcast on France 2. While talking about the damage and the situation of Comorian migrants on the archipelago, the Prime Minister was stopped in his tracks by Nagui.
An evening dedicated to solidarity. This Tuesday, December 17, France 2 turned its program schedule upside down due to current events and the emergency situation affecting Mayotte following the passage of Cyclone Chido. During this special broadcast, whose appeal for donations was orchestrated by the Fondation de France, Karine Baste and Nagui received personalities from the world of culture, civil society and politics. After making his first hectic speech at the National Assembly, François Bayrou went to the TV set and took stock of the situation. “It’s a catastrophe like no other we’ve ever experienced. (…) It seems to me that 80% of the houses had their roofs blown away”he said, highlighting the significant damage in the shanty towns, inhabited largely by Comorian migrants.
Therefore, Karine Baste wanted to know if these disadvantaged neighborhoods “will be integrated into the natural disaster plan”. “We are talking about houses that are not insured and a population that is not insured”she reminded the Prime Minister. Without further ado, Nagui recalled that this population “is not recorded”. “It’s very dramatic”he said without tongue in cheek. To which Michel Barnier’s successor responded: “It’s a situation, from a paperwork point of view, which is illegal”. An indication which did not fail to surprise Mélanie Page’s husband. “Is it the subject today to know if it is legal or not legal?”he said to his guest. Rebuffed by the host, the mayor of Pau made it clear that this was not on the agenda. “No, everyone is Mahorais (…) From now on, we have to act because there is a lack of electricity. (…) We have approximately 50% of the electricity which has been restored. Two of the water plants have restarted but cover 50% of the needs”he said.

François Bayrou rebuked by Nagui: “It wasn’t my question”
In addition to having to manage the crisis affecting the Mayotte archipelago, François Bayrou is trying to find the members of his government team. A point to which Nagui could not help but come back. “Sorry for this question, don’t see any fault on my part, but we are in a period of transition and you have not yet formed your government”, he began. Before being cut off by the Prime Minister: “It will come”.
Without further ado, the 60-year-old presenter told him that “that wasn’t my question.” “In this kind of situation, who acted? Who is on the ground? Who is in charge within the state”he asked him, thus alluding to his absence in Mayotte. “It’s the resigned government with a current Prime Minister”he detailed. If Emmanuel Macron plans to go to Mayotte on December 19, François Bayrou assured that he would do the same “once the government is formed”.
