The Marne firefighters were called shortly after 4:30 p.m., this Tuesday, December 17, to try to save a 68-year-old man who set himself on fire in the public toilets of the town of Esternay (Marne). Burn marks were found on part of his body.
The events took place at Human Rights Square, near the municipal health center. The place where this man lost his life is in a public toilet, near a 200 m2 building, the health center. The mayor of Esternay visited the site and confirmed the care of a victim locked in a toilet.
The precise circumstances of this man’s death will have to be clarified by an investigation opened by the Châlons-en-Champagne public prosecutor’s office. In the town of 1,800 inhabitants, there is amazement. A perimeter was established near where the man was found. The victim was well known in the community. An autopsy of his body was requested by the Châlons prosecutor.
