The studio released a video in which Sebastien Kalemba, the director of The Witcher 4, shares exclusive details about the game. He explains that the start of the trailer takes place in the village of Stromford, an isolated place far to the north. In the universe of The Witcher, many communities resort to sacrifices to face monsters.
Thus, it is young Mioni who was designated by her father and the villagers to satisfy what they believe to be a god. Ciri, being a seasoned monster hunter, waits for Mioni to recite her song to summon evil, after which the witcher orders her to return to the village for shelter.
Ciri thus ventures into hostile territory, where she hears voices and does not see her enemy. The creature is indeed capable of manipulating the fears of its prey, but fortunately, the witcher has a potion, which is in reality a poison granting it extreme centration, and preventing it from hearing voices and having fear.
Thus arises a bugbeara creature from Serbian mythology. Although he is formidable, Ciri gains the upper hand thanks to her Source abilities. She can suck energy from the elements that make up the world and channel it into a devastating spell.
In addition to his Source skills and his silver and steel swords, to eliminate monsters and humans respectively, we discover another formidable element in his arsenal, namely a chain. This is not just a reference to one of the trailers for the very first The Witcher game, but a weapon that can make all the difference. It stands out because Ciri can enchant it, hence the fact that we see her ignite it in the trailer.
Once the creature is executed, Ciri unfortunately discovers that Mioni was sacrificed unnecessarily, probably by her own father. As Sebastien Kalemba explains so well, “the bauk won, because the villagers still let fear control them”.
Fortunately, The Witcher requires, there will still be a question of choices and consequences in this new opus, and the director of the game confirms that it will be possible to save Mioni by making other decisions, confirming in passing that this adventure depicted in the trailer will be available to experience in-game!
