Significant rainfall is expected this Saturday, September 7 in several departments ranging from the Pyrenees to Limousin. Météo-France recommends caution.

Creuse, Haute-Vienne, Corrèze, Dordogne and Hautes-Pyrénées are maintained on orange alert for rain and flooding at least until 3 p.m. this Saturday, September 7, Météo-France indicated in its 6 a.m. bulletin. Hautes-Pyrénées are also on orange alert for floods, with the forecaster expecting the alert to end on Sunday.

The Pyrénées-Atlantiques (rain-flooding and floods) as well as the Landes (floods), which were also on orange alert, have returned to yellow, the agency emphasizes in its latest update.

Up to 250 mm of rain expected in the mountains

Météo-France reported that “accumulations greater than 100 mm on the high chain” from the Hautes-Pyrénées, with “170 mm for example in Gavarnie”. The rains have poured “often between 40 and 80 mm” in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, with “points greater than 100 mm towards the relief”specifies the same source. Peaks between 150 and 250 mm are still expected near the Spanish border, warns Météo-France.

In the west of the Massif Central, the public establishment noted “accumulations of 40 to 70 mm fairly widespread, peaks at 80 mm”. But the stormy rains will continue and the figure could reach around «100 mm» in points.

In the rest of France, an active line of storms will cross eastern Occitanie in the afternoon, towards Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Hauts-de-France. It will give fairly brief but intense rains, sometimes accompanied by hail and gusts of wind.
