On the occasion of the release at the end of January of a book on Lucien Mias, “A legend of French Rugby” (Privat editions) in dedication at Calligram on February 8, we are inaugurating a series of articles on great rugby players from Mazamet .
Rugby, for the Picamoles, is a family affair. Former rugby union international Louis Picamoles (born February 5, 1986) has Mazametan origins. Paternal grandfather Georges was a player for the Mazamet team (3rd row) in the 1950s in the first division. It was his father, a native of Mazamet, who pushed him to play rugby. He made his professional debut at the age of 20 in Montpellier where his father was transferred for professional reasons before playing at the Toulouse stadium from 2009 to 2015 (two French championship titles in 2011-2012 and a European Cup in 2010 ). After a season at Northampton, he returned to Montpellier, his training club, in 2017 before ending his career at Bordeaux Bègles in 2022.
He has 82 caps for the French team as a third center line (1.92 m and 106 kg). For the record, he was the 1,000th player called up to the French team at the age of 22.
-After an aborted goat breeding project, he went into the insurance business.
