The consumption of alcohol on public roads worries residents and traders in downtown Langon (Gironde).
Didier Sendrès, opposition municipal councilor, requested by citizens, asked the question at the last meeting of the municipal council, on November 14, 2024.
“What measures have been taken or could be taken to reduce problems arising from alcohol consumption on public roads? »
Serge Charron, deputy mayor for public peace, citizenship and the fight against substandard housing, responds that a public tranquility commissionwith the gendarmerie commander and the municipal police, met, “an important assessment was shared”.
And plan d’action to respond to incivility in the city center has been developed.
Coordination with the local Security and Delinquency Prevention Council will be intensified, as well as collaboration with structures specializing in addiction to offer tailored support to the people concerned.
The deputy mayor adds: “The gendarmes intervene when there are incivility linked to the prolonged occupation of private spaces. Large-scale control operations are carried out for alcohol and drug checks, with the dog brigade. There is also coordination with the CCAS. »
And mayor's order on the consumption of alcohol on public roads is currently being updated.
“Our municipal police issue fines regularly, like the PSIG (gendarmerie surveillance and intervention platoon), and at the very least have the containers emptied. We must have a balanced approach between prevention and repression. »
“Better adapted gendarmerie personnel”
The mayor of Langon, Jérôme Guillem, specifies that he sent a letter to Bruno RetailleauMinister of the Interior, in order “to have gendarmerie personnel adapted to the city, linked to mobility, the campus and the station”.
“The city welcomes 4,356 students on its campus. Things are happening. You must have the police force of a city where 25,000 people cross paths every day and not a base of 7,500 inhabitants as the Ministry of the Interior maintains. »
A continued decline in state allocations
The mayor requests a enhanced state allocation on 25,000 inhabitants and not 7,500.
“I also questioned our parliamentarians about this allocation. How can we organize our sports infrastructures at the regional level? We are going to be strangled given the decline in funding over the past 10 years. »
