Cramped in its current premises in the hospital district, the Lozère committee of the League against Cancer will move in 2025 to the Beauséjour district.
The Lozère committee of the League against Cancer was created on April 21, 1958, based successively in the commune of Mende, then Marvejols. The head office moved in the 2000s to be hosted by the Mende hospital, now known as Lozère Hospital.
“We ensure four main missions, support for research (the League is the leading private sector donor at the national level), help for patients through oncological supportive care, support for sick people and their loved ones, such as sophrology. , foot reflexology, socioaesthetics, adapted gym and yoga. But also prevention and awareness of screening by organizing events throughout the year, running stands, using communication tools to promote messages, and finally, raising awareness among public decision-makers. We organize support groups dedicated to people affected by the disease. For two years, we have been supporting caregivers“, summarizes Fabienne Hierle, president of the committee. In 2023, there were 178 people affiliated and this year, there will be around 200 people in Lozère.
People welcomed on the rise
In 2025, the committee will move to the Beauséjour district, still in Mende, due to the increase in the number of people welcomed and the difficulty of accessibility of the current premises. This will ensure a better reception.
“Currently, we share premises with another association. On the new site, we will have direct access to the parking lot. We want to prioritize hygiene standards and a better welcome in a more peaceful place. Our premises, currently made available free of charge by the Lozère Hospital, are no longer suitable from a capacity point of view and are not compatible with welcoming people with reduced mobility“, specifies Marcia Despont, coordinator of the Lozère committee of the League against cancer.
Buying a house
It was therefore decided to buy a house, located in a quiet area, close to the city center. The cost of the acquisition amounts to €200,000, including €100,000 financed by a real estate loan. The work costs around €100,000, insulation, layout, accessibility, electricity, boiler, roof repairs and elevator not included.
“We have a part which is taken from our own funds, with the help of the federation. We are launching an appeal for generosity from the public to help us complete the budget“, explain the leaders of the Lozère committee of the League against cancer.
This operation having a significant cost, the association is asking for the generosity of the public, communities and businesses. To do this, a kitty was opened. Donations are tax deductible up to 66% of the amounts paid, a tax receipt is automatically issued within 10 days.
