Lamb prices remain strong on the markets

In recent weeks, the volumes offered on the markets have been decreasing, which is causing supply difficulties in certain slaughterhouses. The French sector is short of lambs and not all customer orders are being honored. British imports are present. Their prices are competitive, but New Zealand legs should be more competitive for the end-of-year holidays. These legs are already in cold rooms with long-term conservation processes. Some stores choose to offer imported meat on the one hand to avoid having a narrow shelf space and on the other hand to offer more attractive prices for consumers.

Commercial activity remains dynamic with prices remaining high. On the Parthenay market, E lambs are valued at between €5.40 and €5.90/kg live and U lambs are trading around €5.30/kg live. This commercial dynamic is also observed across all dials. In Châteaumeillant, lambs weighing 38 to 44 kg sell for an average of €5.55/kg live. Slaughterers are expecting the first brass in the next fortnight to increase supply and stabilize prices for the end-of-year holidays.

In sheep, availability remains barely sufficient for demand. Trade is very fluid with an easy renewal of prices for good heavy ewes which are valued on the markets between 1.80 and 2.20 €/kg live and 1.00 and 1.50 €/kg live for ordinary.
