Tuesday October 29, 2024, a motorcyclist in his fifties died on the road after an accident on the N28 between and Isneauville. A few days earlier, on Thursday October 24, a fatal accident occurred on Departmental 31 at Manéglisenear , costing the life of a 32-year-old young woman.

In total, since the start of 2024, we deplore 47 killed on the roads of Seine-Maritime according to the latest figures from the prefecture. For comparison, 35 people lost their lives in 2023 during this same period, compared to 57 in 2022, the deadliest year of the last decade.

Fewer injuries, but more serious accidents

The prefecture had already sounded the alarm last August, when there were already 34 deaths on the Seinomarine roads. In recent weeks, several fatal accidents have added to this toll.

Furthermore, “the number of injury accidents at the end of October is stable compared to 2023 with 618 accidents, compared to 626 in 2023 and 638 in 2022, while the number of injured decreases by almost 10% with 739 injured in 2024, compared to 819 in 2023 (774 in 2022)”, underlines the prefecture of the Seine-Maritime.

Faced with these figures, the prefect invites “everyone to exercise the greatest caution, particularly due to the current low visibility conditions, and to act responsibly to ensure the safety of all road users”.

“The figures are worrying”

Referring to figures from the end of September, Pauline Jouvenaux, regional director of the Prévention Routière association, indicates that half of the road deaths were vulnerable users (pedestrians, cyclists and motorized two-wheelers).

To raise awareness and reduce risks, the Prévention Routière association regularly organizes actions. “Last week, in partnership with the national and municipal police, we were positioned at bridge level to stop cyclists and check that they were well equipped with lights,” notes Paulie Jouvenaux.

And to conclude: “We must be all the more vigilant as we enter an accident-prone period with reduced visibility.”
