A 38-year-old man died on Sunday, November 17, at the police station in Rouen (Seine-Maritime) after he had just been arrested and placed in police custody, France Bleu Normandie reported on Monday, November 18. An investigation into the causes of death has been opened and an autopsy has been ordered.
The man “had been arrested at the end of the evening following a call from a neighbor to the police who was concerned about the knocks on his neighbor's wall by a man for several days”, indicates the public prosecutor of Rouen, Sébastien Gallois.
“The arrest proved to be very complicated due to probable drug consumption,” continues the press release. Brought back to the police station, the individual refused to sit down and lay down on the ground. “A few minutes later, the police noticed that he was no longer breathing”specifies the prosecutor.
First aid was provided at the scene, but the man could not be resuscitated. At this point, “the hypothesis of death from excess toxic substances is favored”indicates the Rouen public prosecutor’s office.
