in Bouliac, traders worried about the persistent presence of travelers

UPart of the parking lot of the Bouliac shopping center is still occupied by several dozen caravans. Since mid-September, travelers have settled on site, where large brands (Auchan, Decathlon, Norauto, etc.) share space with smaller structures, notably traders from the shopping mall. Faced with this continuing encampment, many people express their fed up anonymously. “They occupy up to three-quarters of our parking lots,” explains one of them. Some customers no longer come. This has been going on for a year: when some travelers leave, others come back…”

On site, the “occupiers” do not wish to express themselves, taking turns passing the responsibility of speaking on to each other. A procedure was indeed initiated by the Auchan group, which resulted in an eviction request. One of the gallery’s oldest traders has observed significant drops in his attendance and turnover, of around 20% for several months. “It started more than a year ago, at the end of summer 2023,” he says. Here, everyone suffers. Almost every day, clients call us to see if they are still there because they don’t feel safe. »

If another group, installed on land along the main road going towards Latresne, has left the premises, that of the shopping center remains in place, depending on departures and new arrivals. “Their electrical cables are soaking in water while we have to go through draconian safety commissions for our installations,” annoys one of the professionals interviewed. Another rails against their consumption of public water. The installation of gantries, at a fairly high cost (several hundred thousand euros), in order to prevent future occupations, is now an avenue for reflection among traders.
