Greens promise faster daily rail network between north and south | New Brunswick Elections 2024

If elected, the Green Party is committed to establishing a faster daily rail network between the north and south of the province and between the three major urban centers, namely Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John.

The Greens presented their plan to fight climate change Tuesday in Fredericton. The leader David Coon and candidate in the riding of Fredericton Lincoln highlighted the frequent delays of Via Rail trains, due to the poor condition of the railway tracks belonging to the CN.

The first phase of the project involves establishing a regional train network offering daily service from Campbellton to Moncton and Sackville. He believes he can achieve this goal by 2028.

When I talk about fast trains, I mean conventional trains that run on adequate tracks so they can travel at 110 km/h and not 50 km/h, as is currently the case. So we’re going to double the speed!

David Coon adds that it will be necessary to begin negotiations with Ottawa, Via Rail and CN to carry out this project, to share the cost of this vital public service.

The connections between Saint-Jean, Moncton and Fredericton are part of the second stage of this project.

The Greens’ climate plan includes, among other things, an investment of $4 million granted next year to the municipalities of Moncton, Fredericton and Saint-Jean, to improve their public transportation system.

Liberals commit to eliminating gas tax

The leader of the Liberal Party and candidate in Fredericton SouthSilverwood was also in Fredericton on Tuesday to announce that she would eliminate the gas tax imposed by Higgswhich would reduce the price at the pump by approximately 4 cents per liter.

This tax follows federal regulations on clean energy. To address this, the province implemented a carbon cost adjuster, which allows the Energy and Utilities Board to change the way it sets fuel prices. This adjuster has long been denounced by Susan Holt.

People are having difficulty making ends meetshe said. M. Higgs prefers to increase your gas costs instead of putting these costs on the gas and oil companies.
